Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lubbock welcomes three University students to intern at our office for the 2019 Summer session. In this series, we’ll introduce you to the talented students that are helping, learning and gaining experience at our office this semester.
Meet Ashtyn!
Where are you originally from, what is your major and what year are you?
I am from Brock, Texas. I am a Senior pursuing a degree in Human Sciences Interdisciplinary Studies with concentrations in Human Sciences, Human Development and Family Studies, and Psychology.
What do you want to do after graduation?
I would love to work for an organization like Big Brothers Big Sisters but on the side be a missionary and travel all around the world and work with kids!
How did you hear about this internship opportunity and what steps did you take to get here?
I was googling different internship opportunities in Lubbock and came across BBBS’ Facebook page and then I looked up their website and emailed both the program director and the marketing director, just hoping to get an interview and get involved with their organization.
Why did you choose to intern at BBBS Lubbock?
I love the idea of creating a safe place for the kids here and matching them with someone who they can always turn to and who can be a light for them!
What are you hoping to learn while interning at BBBS?
I am excited to learn all about BBBS and behind the scenes of all of the matches and how they are successful! I am also eager to learn more about the Lubbock community and what the specific needs are for families.
What was/is your favorite class in college?
My favorite college class is Child and Adolescent Guidance.
What activities are you involved with at school?
I am in Kappa Alpha Theta.
Do you have a special talent?
I can’t think of any special talents that I have.
