The Texas State Association of Big Brothers Big Sisters Agencies Awarded Distinguished Grant from The Meadows Foundation

On Thursday, February 7, 2019 The Texas State Association of Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies became a recipient of a $150,000 grant from The Meadows Foundation. The Meadows Foundation exists to assist people and institutions of Texas to improve the quality and circumstance of life for themselves and future generations.

This grant was awarded to the Texas State Association of Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies to support mentoring relationships for children of incarcerated parents.

Across Texas, our service areas average a significantly higher crime rate than the national average. A substantially larger-than-average portion of our enrolled children have a parent in prison, which makes them 7 times more likely to end up in jail themselves. With this grant, we will be able to provide support to 150 children and mentor matches and help break the cycle of incarceration.

Our goal is to provide at-risk youth with the support they need to:

·  Make good choices

·  Avoid risky behavior, and

·  Graduate high school

With this grant, we will continue to provide one-to-one mentoring for these children, and help change their lives for the better, forever.
