Fall 2019 Intern Spotlight: Alex

Where are you originally from? What is your major and expected graduation year?
Born and raised in El Paso, Texas.
Human Development and Family Studies; December 2019.

What do you plan on doing after graduation?
I want to go to Medical School for Pediatric Psychiatry or Graduate School for Development Psychology.

Why did you choose to intern at BBBS Lubbock?
Wanting to pursue a medical career, I never saw myself interning for a non-profit, however when I interviewed for Big Brothers Big Sisters something drove me to choose them. I’ve always been passionate about wanting to help children in any way I could, especially with mental and emotional wellness because those are two things that I believe are crucial as we all grow up and having healthy attachments is a key factor in that.

What are you hoping to learn while interning at BBBS?
Overall, I would really like to learn more about family dynamics and how that affects the development of children which goes along in learning what our role is in their lives when finding potential matches between our Bigs and Littles.

What is your current TV show?
I have a lot but if I had to pick one it would be Heartland.

Favorite quote or expression?
“Treat people as if they were what they ought to be and you help them to become what they are capable of being.” – Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe.

Someday I will:
Make something of myself so I can give back the way I would like to.

Slightly addicted to:
Coconut Ice Cream Bars.

Dislikes:
Messiness/Clutter!

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Sicily, Italy.
