Spring 2018 Intern Spotlight-Caitlyn

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lubbock welcomes 4 university students to intern at our office for the 2018 spring semester. In this series, we’ll introduce you to the talented students that are helping, learning and gaining experience at our office this semester.

Meet Caitlyn

Where are you from and what is you classification and major?

Lewisville, Texas. Senior majoring in HDFS(Human Development and Family Services)

What do you want to be when you grow up?

I want to be a 1st or 2nd grade teacher back home in the Plano area.

What is a typical day as an intern at BBBS?

As an intern I spend my time sitting in on interviews, which could be parents/caregivers, children, or volunteers to be bigs, we make assessments in a word document at the end of interviews that sums up the questions to help with the match up and we help with whatever needs to get done.

How did you hear about this internship opportunity and what steps did you take to get here?

I heard about this internship opportunity from a friend of mine, also my advisor informed me that passed interns have enjoyed their time here at BBBS. I called Debra early December and we set up an appointment for an interview, it went great and then we scheduled days I am available and I started mid-January.

What are you hoping to learn while interning at BBBS?

I’m hoping to learn a better understanding about non-profit agencies, I don’t know much about how they work. I want to get to know more about BBBS. I’m also hoping to learn how to incorporate many different things I learn at BBBS for my job later on and build a friendship with the people I work with here at BBBS.

What was/is your favorite class in college?

My favorite class in college was gender development, it was a HDFS course I took it in spring of 2017 at Texas Tech.

Do you have a special talent?

I’m very good at soccer and volleyball.

What is your current favorite TV show?

This is us

What was the last movie you watched?

The greatest showman

Drink of choice?

Dr Pepper

Favorite quote or expression?
